What the Lo Shu grid calculator does

The Lo Shu grid calculator places the digits of a date of birth on the fixed 3×3 grid, 4-9-2 / 3-5-7 / 8-1-6, adds the driver, conductor and Kua numbers, and reads the result: which cells fill, which numbers are missing, which repeat, and which of the eight lines complete. It takes two inputs:

• Date of birth — required, with the year in full.
• Sex — used for one thing only: working out the Kua number, which is then added to the grid.

What comes back:

• the grid itself, each cell labelled with the planet that rules its number and each entry marked by where it came from;
• a chart-strength score and label, built from how many lines complete, weighted by the lines the source material ranks;
• the three lotteries: whether the driver, the conductor and the Kua each open a cell the date left empty;
• all eight lines, complete or not, with the business reading of each;
• missing and repeated numbers with a note on each, and the combinations the source material names directly.

The grid uses no letter values, so a name has no effect on it.

How the Lo Shu grid is built from a date of birth

Every number has a fixed cell, labelled here with its planet:

1. Write the date out as DD MM YYYY, with the year in full.
2. Drop every zero. A zero has no cell.
3. Place each remaining digit in its cell. A digit that appears twice is written twice.
4. Add the driver (the day reduced), the conductor (every digit of the date reduced) and the Kua (from the year of birth and the sex).
5. Read it. A number is missing when its cell is still empty after step 4. A line is complete when all three of its cells hold at least one entry, from any source.

Step 4 carries the rule the source material calls the three lotteries. An added number that lands on an empty cell opens it, and the method reads that as a real gain. One that lands on a cell the date already filled adds nothing new, and a cell only ever pays out once, so two added numbers on the same empty cell count as one.

Worked example: one date, two Kua numbers

Take an invented person born on 17 May 1980. Written out, the date is 17 05 1980; dropping the two zeros leaves 1, 7, 5, 1, 9 and 8. The driver is 17/8 and the conductor 31/4. The Kua is 2 with the sex entered as male and 4 entered as female.

With the sex entered as male, the calculator draws this grid:

Complete lines: Earth Plane (2-5-8), Will Plane (9-5-1) and Mental Plane (4-9-2). Chart strength: Strong, 65 out of 100. Because 2 and 7 are both present, it also flags the pairing the method reads as strong intuition.

With the sex entered as female, the driver (8) lands on a cell the date already filled; the conductor (4) opens an empty cell; the Kua (4) lands on a cell another of the three has already opened. Missing numbers: 2, 3 and 6. Complete lines: Will Plane (9-5-1). Chart strength: Light, 23 out of 100.

Same date, same digits, same driver and conductor. The difference between the two charts is one Kua number and the cell it lands on.

Is the Kua number used in the Lo Shu grid?

In this calculator, yes. The source material is split, and the split is worth knowing before comparing a chart from here with one drawn elsewhere.

• Most of the source material writes the driver, the conductor and the Kua into the grid. This calculator follows that majority.
• A minority fills the grid with the date's digits plus the driver and conductor only, and keeps the Kua as a separate number off the grid.
• A Western birth-chart method places the date's digits alone, on a different arrangement of the nine cells.

The Kua is computed exactly as the core number calculator computes it, from the calendar year of birth and the sex. That page shows the formula step by step, and the variants some traditions apply to the Kua that this calculator does not.

Missing numbers, repeats and the Lo Shu grid planes

A missing number is one whose cell is still empty after the driver, conductor and Kua are added, which is why the same date can show different gaps for the two sexes. The calculator reads an absence as capacity to be built deliberately, not as a defect, and gives a note for each. Repeats intensify rather than double, and the note steps up with the count. The source material ranks the Golden Plane first, the Earth Plane second and the Will Plane third, and the strength score weights those lines by rank. It is explicit that which lines complete matters more than how many. It treats the Golden Plane and Earth Plane as the two most powerful lines, and the calculator lists them first with their rank, complete or not. Names vary between traditions, so the same three cells can carry a different label on another chart. The Lo Shu grid planes reads each line in business terms.

Can the Lo Shu grid predict the future, or read a mobile or house number?

Prediction

No. The grid is fixed at birth: the same date always gives the same cells, so it cannot track events. The source material reads it as a map of tendencies, what comes easily and what takes deliberate work, and a complete line as potential rather than a result. Some readings lay yearly cycles over the grid, but no source defines how precisely enough to compute, so the calculator does not attempt it.

Mobile, house and office numbers

The calculator takes a date of birth and nothing else. The question comes up because the grid is built from digits, but the source material reads a phone, house or office number differently: by its total and its digit patterns, judged against the owner's birth number. Where the Lo Shu grid calculator runs out

• It describes; it does not decide. A complete line is not a career verdict and a missing number is not a sentence. The notes are the tradition's readings, offered for reflection.
• The sources disagree, and the calculator picks. The Kua is in; a line may be named differently elsewhere; and a second grid with 7 at the centre is mentioned in the source material but never laid out, so the calculator does not invent one.
• Numerology has no scientific standing. The site's disclaimer applies to every cell of every chart.
• It is one input. A founder's grid says nothing about a market, a product or the accounts, and nothing here is business, financial or medical advice.
