What the driver and conductor number calculator works out

The calculator takes a date of birth and works out the numbers business numerology reads first. The driver number, also called the mulank or psychic number, is the day of the month reduced. The conductor number, also called the bhagyank or destiny number, is every digit of the full date reduced. The Kua comes from the year of birth and the sex. With a name entered, it adds the name number from the Chaldean letter values.

• Date of birth — required, with the year in four digits.
• Sex — used only for the Kua. Every other number is the same either way.
• Full name — optional, spelled as on documents; honorifics are left out.
• Methodology options — the letter system and the reduction rule, applied to everything on the page.

Each number comes back with the addition that produced it, its planet, and a short reading. The page also gives the soul urge, personality and first name numbers, the personal year, month and day, and the universal year. The personal day is flagged as an extension of a documented rule, because the source material never defines one. Master numbers (11, 22 and 33) and the karmic numbers 13, 14, 16 and 19 are flagged where they occur.

How to calculate birth number and destiny number

Take an invented founder born on 29 September 1986.

Driver number (mulank). Only the day counts; the month and year never enter it. 29 gives 2 + 9 = 11, then 1 + 1 = 2, quoted as 29/2. Every day of the month falls into one of nine families:

The source material spells out every family except 5 and 9; those follow from the reduction rule rather than a stated list, and the calculator says so.

Conductor number (bhagyank). Write the date as DD MM YYYY and add every digit: 2 + 9 + 0 + 9 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 6 = 44, quoted as 44/8. The year must be all four digits: writing 29 09 86 instead gives 34/7, a different total and a different number.

The two are quoted compound first because the total a number arrived from is read as well as the digit. The driver and conductor number guide reads all nine of each for business.

Kua number calculator: how the Kua is worked out

The Kua is the only core number that depends on sex. Add the digits of the year of birth and reduce them to one digit, then apply the rule for the sex entered. The year 1986 gives 1 + 9 + 8 + 6 = 24, reduced to 6. For a man the Kua is 11 minus that root: 11 − 6 = 5. For a woman it is the root plus 4: 6 + 4 = 10, reduced to 1. Any result of 10 or more is reduced again.

What this calculator does not do

• It reports a Kua of 5 as 5. Feng shui practice commonly replaces a Kua of 5, with 2 for a man and 8 for a woman. The source material this site follows never mentions that substitution, and its own formula produces 5 for a woman whose birth year reduces to 1 or a man whose birth year reduces to 6. The calculator applies no substitution.
• It uses the calendar year. Some traditions count a birth before the lunar new year, in late January or February, as belonging to the previous year. The calculator uses the year as entered: a man born on 15 January 1987 gets Kua 4, where the previous-year convention would give 5.

Its main job is in the Lo Shu grid calculator, where it is added to the grid and can open a cell the date left empty. How much it weighs is disputed: one account calls it decisive, another puts it at about a fifth of a reading, and most keep it below the driver and conductor.

Chaldean name number calculator: how the letters add up

The name number values every letter of the full name and adds them. In the Chaldean table the calculator uses by default, no letter carries 9; it can only arise as a total.

For the invented founder's name, Asha Verma: ASHA = 10/1 and VERMA = 18/9, a total of 28/1. The vowels alone give the soul urge, 8; the consonants alone give the personality number, 20/2. The same name in the Pythagorean table totals 34/7, which is why the calculator names the system it used on every result.

Every number for one founder

Entering 29 September 1986 and Asha Verma returns the following. Only the Kua changes with the sex.

For a person, the method works from the driver, the conductor and the Kua. When the question is a business, the third seat goes to the business name number instead.

Where sources disagree, and the rule this calculator applies

• Master numbers. Some sources keep 11, 22 and 33 unreduced; others reduce them like any total. The default reduces, so day 29 is 29/2. With the reduction rule set to keep master numbers, the same day stops at 29/11.
• Which name. The name on documents, the name a person is best known by and the full name at birth are all argued for. The calculator values whatever spelling is entered and recommends the documents.
• When the day begins. One strand holds that a birth in the small hours, before sunrise, belongs to the previous day. The calculator uses the calendar date, as the rest of the source material does.
• Driver or conductor first. The material has the driver leading early life and the conductor taking over somewhere in the thirties, without agreeing on the age. The calculator shows both and ranks neither.

Where this calculator runs out

• It calculates; it does not foretell. The readings are what the tradition associates with each number, offered for reflection. None of them says what will happen to a person or a business.
• Numerology has no scientific standing. The site's disclaimer applies to every number on the page.
• It is not advice. A driver or conductor number is no reason to take or refuse a job, a partner or a loan.
• The inputs decide everything. A wrong year, a nickname in place of a documented name or the wrong system gives a different, equally confident answer, so the arithmetic is shown to be checked.
