Numerology for Clothing Business: Best Numbers and the One to Avoid

Numerology for clothing business names: the numbers the textiles and fashion rows favour, why 3 is advised against, the split over 8, and the founder check.

Numerology for Clothing Business: Best Numbers and the One to Avoid

25 Sep 2026 · Updated 13 Oct 2026 · 1433 words · Guide · How this is checked

In numerology for clothing business names, this method reads two sector rows. Textiles and apparel favours 6, 2, 5 and 8. Luxury and fashion favours 6, 2, 5 and 1. Both rows advise against one number: 3. Separately from either row, 4 and 8 carry a penalty as trading-name totals in every sector — which puts 8 in the unusual position of being favoured by one rule and marked down by another.

That is the sector half of the reading. The other half, which usually decides it, is the founder: a name is graded against the owner's own birth numbers, and the best total for one clothing founder can be a poor one for another. Both halves are worked through below, with the arithmetic shown.

Which numbers suit a clothing business?

The two rows overlap on most numbers and differ on two. The table sets them side by side, with the trading-name rule in its own column because it is a separate check:

Read across, three numbers are favoured by both rows: 6, 2 and 5. One is advised against by both: 3. The rest are either favoured by only one row (1 for fashion, 8 for textiles) or not mentioned at all, which is an absence of comment rather than a warning.

Which row applies depends on the business. A garment manufacturer, fabric trader or apparel wholesaler is closest to the textiles row. A designer label, boutique or fashion brand is closest to luxury and fashion. Many clothing businesses sit across both, and the numbers favoured by both rows are the safe ground.

Why 3 is the number to avoid for clothing

Both clothing rows advise against 3, and the general retail row states the same thing more narrowly: 3 is advised against for showroom, boutique and salon-style retail. The sector map records the rule; it does not add a reason, and this page does not invent one.

What it means in practice is simple. A clothing name whose letters total 3 — reached through 12, 21, 30 or any other route — is read against its sector, however it reads for the founder.

The 8 question: favoured by the textiles row, penalised as a name total

8 is where the sources pull in different directions, and it is worth stating the split rather than smoothing it over.

  • The textiles and apparel row lists 8 among its favoured numbers.
  • The luxury and fashion row makes no statement about 8.
  • The trading-name rule penalises 4 and 8 as a business name total in every sector.

So a textile business whose name lands on 8 passes the sector check and fails the trading-name check. The analyser applies both, and the penalty is not overridden by the sector row. If you are naming a mill or a fabric trader, 8 is not the clean result the textiles row alone would suggest. 6, 2 and 5 are favoured by the same row without that conflict.

How a clothing brand name adds up

This site uses the Chaldean letter table, in which letters take values from 1 to 8 and no letter is worth 9:

ValueLetters
1A, I, J, Q, Y
2B, K, R
3C, G, L, S
4D, M, T
5E, H, N, X
6U, V, W
7O, Z
8F, P

Worked example, an invented fashion label, SILVER CLOTHING:

  • SILVER: S=3, I=1, L=3, V=6, E=5, R=2 → 3 + 1 + 3 + 6 + 5 + 2 = 20
  • CLOTHING: C=3, L=3, O=7, T=4, H=5, I=1, N=5, G=3 → 3 + 3 + 7 + 4 + 5 + 1 + 5 + 3 = 31
  • Whole name: 20 + 31 = 51, then 5 + 1 = 6

SILVER CLOTHING is reported as 51/6. That clears the sector gate — both clothing rows favour 6 — and it clears the compound gate too: 51 is graded Excellent, which the business sources describe as "strongly favoured — fast growth, with a burnout warning".

A second example shows why the compound matters as well as the digit. An invented textile name, SILK HOUSE:

  • SILK: S=3, I=1, L=3, K=2 → 3 + 1 + 3 + 2 = 9
  • HOUSE: H=5, O=7, U=6, S=3, E=5 → 5 + 7 + 6 + 3 + 5 = 26
  • Whole name: 9 + 26 = 35, then 3 + 5 = 8

SILK HOUSE lands on 35/8. The textiles row favours 8, but 8 is penalised as a trading-name total, and the compound 35 is graded Avoid — "avoid — repeatedly named as a ruin compound". Three checks, and only one of them is passed. Test your own spellings in the business name analyser, which runs all of them.

Matching the name to the founder

A business name is graded against the founder's driver, from the day of the month, and conductor, from the whole date. Work both out in the core calculators.

The table below shows the totals the analyser suggests for a founder whose driver and conductor are the same digit — only totals it grades Workable or better — and how each meets the clothing rows:

Founder (driver and conductor both)Totals the analyser suggestsFavoured by a clothing rowAdvised against for clothing

21, 2, 6, 71, 2, 6—
33, 9none3
41, 6, 71, 6—

71, 5, 6, 71, 5, 6—
83, 5, 6, 75, 63
93, 9none3

Two rows stand out. A founder whose numbers are both 3, or both 9, is steered towards 3 and 9 — and 3 is the one number both clothing rows advise against. For those founders 9 is the total that clears both checks, even though neither clothing row mentions it. Most founders have a driver and a conductor that differ, and the suggestions change when they do, so run your own pair rather than reading a single row.

If two or more partners carry the name, the total has to suit each of them. The partnership compatibility tool reads the pair.

The shop, the domain and the launch date

A clothing business carries more numbers than its name, and each is graded its own way.

  • Shop or showroom number. The address analyser grades a premises against the owner's birth number, not against the business name or the sector. It also applies two blanket rules: totals of 2, 4 or 8 are capped whatever else agrees, and floors of 2 or 4 are marked down. There is no single "good" shop number for clothing.
  • Online store domain. The domain name analyser reads the name you type, with the extension handled consistently with the other tools.
  • Launch or opening date. The launch date finder grades each date against the founder's numbers, so a date that suits one owner can sit badly with another.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best number for a clothing business name?

Both clothing rows favour 6, 2 and 5, so those are the totals the sector reads well. Which of them suits you depends on your own driver and conductor: the analyser only suggests totals it grades Workable or better for your birth date. Check the compound as well — 51/6 and 33/6 are both graded Excellent.

Is 8 good or bad for a clothing brand?

Both, depending on the rule. The textiles and apparel row favours 8, but 4 and 8 are penalised as trading-name totals in every sector, and the analyser applies that penalty. For a fashion label the luxury row makes no statement about 8 at all.

Why should a clothing business avoid 3?

Both clothing rows advise against 3, and the retail row advises against it for showroom, boutique and salon-style shops. The sector map states the rule without adding a reason. A name totalling 3 is read against the sector whatever it gives the founder.

My birth number is 3. What should my clothing brand total?

If your driver and conductor are both 3, the analyser suggests 3 and 9 — and 3 is advised against for clothing. That leaves 9, which neither clothing row mentions, as the total that clears both checks. A different conductor changes the suggestions, so test your own pair.

Does "Pvt Ltd" count in a clothing brand's total?

No. The business name analyser removes registrar suffixes such as Pvt Ltd, LLP or Inc automatically and lists what it removed. SILVER CLOTHING PVT LTD is read as 51/6, the same as SILVER CLOTHING; counted with the suffix it would be 80/8, which is why the trading name is the one that is graded.

Where this runs out

A sector row is a statement from the source material, not a measurement of how clothing businesses trade. Nothing here predicts sales, margins or how quickly stock moves; cut, fabric, price, channel and management decide those.

What the method does offer is consistency: the same letter table, the same sector rows, the same trading-name rule and the same founder check every time, so two candidate names can be compared fairly before one goes on a label. Use it to choose between options you would be content with anyway. The methodology page explains how every score here is built.

Where this sits in the method

The reference rules behind this article, with the pages that set each of them out in full.

Three numbers, three different jobs

The birth number describes temperament, the destiny number describes direction, and the name number describes what a name carries. The same digit reads differently in each role, and the method keeps them apart throughout.

The compound sits under the digit

A name total is a two-digit number before it is reduced, and the two-digit reading is where the difference between two names on the same digit is recorded.

Prohibitions are blocks, not low scores

Where the source material tells a number to stay out of a trade, it is stated absolutely rather than as a weak fit. Those blocks are applied as blocks on the sector guides.
