Numerology for Tech Business: Best Numbers for Software and SaaS

Numerology for tech business and SaaS names: the numbers both tech rows favour, why the top-ranked 4 is penalised as a name total, and the founder check.

Numerology for Tech Business: Best Numbers for Software and SaaS

25 Sep 2026 · Updated 13 Oct 2026 · 1070 words · Guide · How this is checked

In numerology for tech business names, this method reads two sector rows. Technology and IT favours 4, 5, 7, 1 and 9. SaaS and software products favours 4, 7 and 5. Neither row advises against any number. Both put 4 first — and 4 is one of the two totals penalised as a trading name in every sector, so the number the rows rank highest is one the analyser never suggests to a founder.

That tension is the most useful thing to understand about naming a tech company by numbers. The rest of this page works through the rows, the founder check and two worked names, with the arithmetic shown.

Which numbers suit a tech business?

The table sets the two rows side by side, with the trading-name rule in its own column because it is a separate check:

NumberPlanetTechnology & IT rowSaaS & software products rowAs a trading-name total
1SunFavouredNo statementNo blanket penalty
2MoonNo statementNo statementNo blanket penalty
3JupiterNo statementNo statementNo blanket penalty
4RahuFavouredFavouredPenalised (4 and 8)
5MercuryFavouredFavouredNo blanket penalty
6VenusNo statementNo statementNo blanket penalty
7KetuFavouredFavouredNo blanket penalty
8SaturnNo statementNo statementPenalised (4 and 8)
9MarsFavouredNo statementNo blanket penalty

Read across, 4, 5 and 7 are favoured by both rows. 1 and 9 are favoured by the technology row only. 2, 3, 6 and 8 are not mentioned by either, which is an absence of comment rather than a warning.

The 4 question: ranked first, penalised as a name total

The split over 4 is worth stating plainly rather than resolving quietly:

  • The technology row and the SaaS row both list 4 first.
  • The trading-name rule penalises 4 and 8 as a business name total in every sector.

The analyser applies both, and the penalty is not overridden by the sector rows. So a software company whose name totals 4 passes the sector check and fails the trading-name check. 5 and 7, favoured by both rows without that conflict, are the cleaner results.

8 is a different case. Neither tech row mentions it, so the sector has no view, but it carries the same trading-name penalty as 4.

How a software brand name adds up

This site uses the Chaldean letter table, in which letters take values from 1 to 8 and no letter is worth 9:

ValueLetters
1A, I, J, Q, Y
2B, K, R
3C, G, L, S
4D, M, T
5E, H, N, X
6U, V, W
7O, Z
8F, P

Worked example, an invented software company, CORVID:

  • CORVID: C=3, O=7, R=2, V=6, I=1, D=4 → 3 + 7 + 2 + 6 + 1 + 4 = 23
  • Reduced: 2 + 3 = 5

CORVID is reported as 23/5. Both tech rows favour 5, and the compound 23 is graded Excellent — "strongly favoured — the best route to 5".

A second example shows the 4 tension in a single name. An invented developer-tools company, KERNEL:

  • KERNEL: K=2, E=5, R=2, N=5, E=5, L=3 → 2 + 5 + 2 + 5 + 5 + 3 = 22
  • Reduced: 2 + 2 = 4

KERNEL lands on 22/4. Both rows rank 4 first, but 4 is penalised as a trading-name total, and the compound 22 is graded Caution — "powerful but not durable — a number of extremes". 22 is also one of the compounds some sources call a master number; master numbers 11 and 22 in business explains how this site reports them. Test your own spellings in the business name analyser.

Matching the name to the founder

A business name is graded against the founder's driver, from the day of the month, and conductor, from the whole date. Work both out in the core calculators.

The table shows the totals the analyser suggests for a founder whose driver and conductor are the same digit — only totals it grades Workable or better — and which of them a tech row favours:

Founder (driver and conductor both)Totals the analyser suggestsFavoured by a tech row
11, 71, 7
21, 2, 6, 71, 7
33, 99
41, 6, 71, 7
51, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 91, 5, 7, 9
61, 5, 6, 71, 5, 7
71, 5, 6, 71, 5, 7
83, 5, 6, 75, 7
93, 99

4 appears nowhere in the suggested column. Every founder in the table has at least one suggested total that a tech row favours, and for founders on 3 or 9 it is the same single number, 9 — favoured by the technology row, not mentioned by the SaaS row. Most founders have a driver and a conductor that differ, so run your own pair. Where there are co-founders, the partnership compatibility tool reads them together.

The domain and the launch date

  • Domain. The domain name analyser reads a web address on its own terms, so a company name and its domain can land on different totals.
  • Launch date. The launch date finder grades each date against the founder's numbers rather than against the sector.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best number for a tech startup name?

Both tech rows favour 4, 5 and 7, but 4 is penalised as a trading-name total, which leaves 5 and 7 as the clean results for a software company; the technology row also favours 1 and 9. Which suits you depends on your driver and conductor — the analyser only suggests totals it grades Workable or better for you.

Is 4 a good number for a tech company?

Both tech rows list 4 first, but 4 is penalised as a trading-name total in every sector, and the analyser applies that penalty. So 4 is never among the totals it suggests, however highly the sector rows rank it.

Is 7 good for a SaaS business?

Yes, on the sector check: the SaaS row lists 7 second and the technology row favours it too, and 7 carries no trading-name penalty. Whether it suits you depends on your own numbers — 7 is among the suggested totals for founders whose numbers are both 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8.

Is 8 bad for a software company?

Neither tech row mentions 8, so the sector has no view on it. It is, however, penalised as a trading-name total in every sector, alongside 4, so a software name on 8 is marked down for that reason rather than for its sector.

My birth number is 3. What should my tech company's name total?

If your driver and conductor are both 3, the analyser suggests 3 and 9. The technology row favours 9 and neither row mentions 3, so 9 is the total that suits both your numbers and the sector. A different conductor changes the suggestions, so test your own pair.

Where this runs out

A sector row is a statement from the source material, not a measurement of how software companies grow. Nothing here predicts users, revenue or funding; product, timing, team and execution decide those.

What the method does offer is a consistent way to compare candidate names before one is registered: the same letter table, the same rows, the same trading-name rule and the same founder check every time. The methodology page explains how every score here is built.

Where this sits in the method

The reference rules behind this article, with the pages that set each of them out in full.

Three numbers, three different jobs

The birth number describes temperament, the destiny number describes direction, and the name number describes what a name carries. The same digit reads differently in each role, and the method keeps them apart throughout.

The compound sits under the digit

A name total is a two-digit number before it is reduced, and the two-digit reading is where the difference between two names on the same digit is recorded.

Prohibitions are blocks, not low scores

Where the source material tells a number to stay out of a trade, it is stated absolutely rather than as a weak fit. Those blocks are applied as blocks on the sector guides.
